Sometimes You Should Retreat Before Pressing On

Before modern military tactics were developed, it was common for the General to move to an elevated position to observe the battle. Typically, soldiers fighting face-to-face with their enemy were so focused on survival that they lacked perspective on whether they were winning or losing until the battle was over. The General’s view, however, prompted adjustments to increase the likelihood of victory.

When I say ‘retirement goals’ most folks assume I’m asking them to tell me about the lifestyle they want, or when they plan to stop working. But I’d like to challenge you to think of retirement goals a bit differently.

Outliving your money is a real and serious risk for today’s retirees.

However, as with most risks we face in life, there are methods to insure against it. In fact, there is a method to guarantee that the odds you’ll run out of money no matter how long you live are very low!  It’s a solid system—a plan for withdrawing or distributing funds from your nest egg throughout your retirement years.  Of course, if you don’t get it right, your retirement ‘stash’ can dry up a lot faster than you think.
